Setting and background:


In 2031, in order to obtain more energy, humanity built more nuclear power plants. After an earthquake, nuclear power plants and other important energy facilities were damaged. Nuclear energy contaminated water sources and the air, and through rainfall the problem was also brought to other regions. After that, humans lived under radiation for a long time, which damaged DNA and caused babies to develop cancer and other diseases.

After research, it was discovered that plants such as yew, periwinkle, and the happy tree were highly effective in anti-cancer treatment. Therefore, after a large number of experiments, gene-editing technology was used to combine plant DNA with human DNA in order to achieve anti-cancer effects. This was called the “Symbiosis” Program.

However, due to the rarity of these plants, at the very beginning only the upper class had the opportunity to receive “Symbiosis.” As the number of people undergoing symbiosis increased, some people grew parts of plants, which filled the gap left by the plants, and more and more people had the opportunity to receive “Symbiosis.” A profession that specifically provided plant DNA was also developed.

In 2058, the “Symbiosis” technology had basically reached a mature stage. “Symbiosis” was included as one of the medical procedures that newborns were required to receive at birth. Many people who successfully fused with plant genes extended their lifespan and enhanced their physical abilities. Upper-class individuals, due to receiving more advanced gene editing, had a lower probability of experiencing side effects. At the same time, in order to widely promote the “Symbiosis” technology, governments and upper-class groups provided subsidies to certain designated hospitals and communities.
